I Am Enough

By Julie Pearson, Founder of Gap Gals Ministry –

I have to admit, there are times when I feel “I AM NOT ENOUGH.” This negative thinking steals my joy and sucks the life right out of me. I am naturally hard on myself. I have a tendency to be a perfectionist with my abilities, and at times don’t feel like I measure up to the successes of those around me. Maybe some of you can relate and struggle with similar battled thoughts and emotions.

I have recently stepped out in faith to begin blog writing, but the insurmountable fear, “I Am Not Good Enough”, has prevented me from pursuing this personal goal. Thankfully a friend challenged me to FEAR NOT and BE COURAGEOUS!! My friend invited me to lunch and I accepted the invitation as my spirit prompted me . . . “She needs me right now”. As soon as we sat down, floods of tears rolled down both our faces. Her life has not been easy and her very words to me were, “Julie you need to write and speak God’s messages to give women like me a source of HOPE.” I was allowing my own insecurities, “I Am Not Enough” to stand in the way of doing God’s work . . . providing HOPE for the hurting.

Do you too get paralyzed by this thought: “I Am Not Enough”? Do you struggle with not feeling attractive enough, smart enough, accomplished enough, popular enough, successful enough, worthy enough? Do these thoughts hold you back? Why are we so shamed by these emotions, and how do we conquer this shame that endlessly sends us into a tailspin?

First, we need to believe in our hearts God did not make a mistake in creating us. He has great purpose for you and I. He has knit us together uniquely and differently. We must celebrate our uniqueness instead of squelch it.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful.” Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

If we don’t celebrate who God made us to be, we are lacking great respect for our Maker. Ouch, I am sure this burdens His heart!!!

Second, we need to see and be confident in our value and worth, no matter who has told you or made you feel otherwise!!

“She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.” Proverbs 3:15 (NIV)

As our identity becomes secure in WHOSE we are (we are loved by God, designed with a unique purpose), we begin to live our lives certain of WHO we are. If we don’t live our lives understanding our true source of identity, we miss out on our life’s greater purpose.

Imagine the freedom of not living a life of shame and not feeling “I Am Not Enough”. No more comparing yourself, no more wishing you had different talents, no more jealousy of others. We can finally enjoy our journey in life!! Our souls are content, we can breathe without anxious thoughts, we are finally settled. We live our lives with full assurance…

“I Am Enough, Because He is Enough.”
