“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” Isaiah 60:1 (NIV)
Are you so burdened with life right now, that it’s all you can do to get out of bed in the morning? Do you shuffle throughout the day feeling like you can barely make it one more step, handle one more issue, mark off one more chore on your never-ending to-do list, answer one more phone call, clean up one more mess, respond to one more email, change one more diaper, fight traffic one more day, deal with one more…. It makes me tired just thinking of it – I want to go back to bed, lay in the dark and pretend that it’s not morning.
Not every day is like that, not every week or every month, but when those times come they are rough! What gets you through those days? Is it coffee? Is it chocolate? Is it a friend? Is it the smile of a child? Is it a tender hug? All of those things definitely help, especially the coffee! But for me, it is truly only one thing that gets me through–reading the bible. God’s Word offers me hope to make it through my “one more…”
Isaiah 60:1 gives us hope for each day, “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” We have the glory of Jesus upon us – we have His Beauty, Majesty and Splendor upon us, to carry us, and to shine through us. This gives me hope because I know that it doesn’t have to come from ME – I don’t need to have it, and I don’t need to fake it. I can arise, I can get out of bed, and I can shine with His glory.
Isaiah offers us even more hope: “Lift up your eyes and look about you…then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy” Isa. 60:4-5 (NIV). This reminds me to take my eyes off of my burdens. Sometimes I am so focused on the situation that is troubling me that I forget to look up and see what God is doing all around me. As I lift my eyes and gaze around me, I am aware of His glory, His beauty, His majesty, and I realize the joy only He provides, and I am prepared for “one more…”
Do you have a friend who is weighed down by burdens, who can barely get through the day, who has lost hope? Help her to experience the Light of Jesus. Be there for her, encourage her, pray with her, and bring her to the Gap Gals Ministry REVIVE outreach event on April 25, 2014.
What is your “one more,” and what helps you get through it?
